Calling All Animal Adventurers This February Half Term at The Beacon

Families are invited to step into a magical Story Garden this February half term as The Beacon launches a free indoor treasure trail inspired by the Reading Agency’s Winter Reading Challenge.

Running throughout half term week, the Beacon Story Garden Trail transforms the shopping centre into an adventure where children can discover a collection of story-inspired garden animals hidden in shop windows across the centre.

With spring just around the corner, the animals from the Story Garden have gone exploring – and now they’re lost! Young visitors are invited to become Animal Adventurers and help track them down.

Children can pick up their discovery sheets from Gather located on the lower ground mall opposite the Fragrance Shop at The Beacon or

and set off to find:

Ollie Owl – wise and watchful
Happy Hen – permanently peckish
Busy Bee – buzzing for something sweet
Cheeky Monkey – playful and mischievous
Freddy Frog – loves splashing in the bath
Lucy Lamb – bouncy and brave
Fifi Fox – clever and adventurous

Each character is linked to a different retailer and paired with a suggested children’s book, encouraging families to continue the adventure through reading at home.

Completed discovery sheets can be returned to Gather for the chance to win a half term prize.

Designed as a fully indoor activity, the trail provides a fun, weather-proof way for families to enjoy the school holidays while exploring everything The Beacon has to offer.

The trail supports the Reading Agency’s Winter Reading Challenge: Story Garden, delivered locally through Eastbourne’s library service. Families are encouraged to visit their local library to discover more nature-inspired stories and continue the reading challenge before it finishes on the 20th February.

Mark Powell, General Manager at The Beacon, said:
“We’re delighted to bring the Story Garden to life at The Beacon this half term. The trail is a fantastic way for families to spend time together, explore the centre and discover some brilliant children’s books along the way. We’re proud to support the Winter Reading Challenge and work with our local library to help inspire young readers across Eastbourne.”

The Beacon Story Garden Trail runs all week during February half term and is free to take part in. Discovery sheets are available from Gather while stocks last.
